Awards at CHCS

AWARDS

In partial fulfillment of our mission statement,
“…to glorify God through excellence’, CHCS will recognize students
who exemplify “working as unto the Lord.”
These honors will encompass both spiritual and academic excellence.

 

Matthew J. DeWelt Christian Character Award

  • The recipient of this award is a member of the senior class who displays the character of Christ in all aspects of their life.
  • Students are nominated by the High School faculty and then voted on by the Senior Class.
  • Announced at Senior Chapel.
  • Accepts the award at the Annual Academic Ceremony.
  • Addresses the Senior Class at Baccalaureate.
  • Recipient walks with distinguished graduates at graduation.

Cougar of the Week

  • The Cougar of the Week award is given in recognition of someone who displays the character of Christ in every day life, especially as they demonstrate servant leadership.
  • This award is based on Matthew 5:16,  "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
  • Students, faculty, and parents can submit a written nomination to the Secondary Principal.
  • The Cougar of the Week is recognized weekly during the secondary chapel.

Graduation Honors

  • The recipient(s) of this award must have met the requirements of an Honors Diploma at CHCS.
  • "Cum Laude" status will be given to each student who has a 4.0 grade average on a weighted scale. "Summa Cum Laude" status will be given to each student who earns an A in all classes.  Recipient(s) will address the graduating class during commencement.
  • Recipient(s) will walk with distinguished graduates at graduation.

Departmental Awards

  • The faculty of each academic department at CHCS nominates the outstanding student in the following departments:
    • Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, English, Bible, Foreign Language, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Drama, and Art
  • Recipient must be a junior or senior student.
  • Overall G.P.A. of 2.80.
  • Outstanding performance in the departmental area
  • Evidence of application of the expertise outside of school (contests, volunteer work, etc.).
  • An individual cannot be the recipient of more than two awards in one year.
  • Awarded to the recipients at the Annual Academic Banquet.

Academic High Honors

  • All students who earn 3.70 - 4.0 G.P.A..
  • No grades lower than a B (3.0).
  • Awarded at quarter and semester intervals.

Academic Honors

  • All students who earn 3.00 - 3.69 G.P.A.
  • No grades lower than a B (3.0).
  • Awarded at quarter and semester intervals.
